RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN EDUCATION (NOSTRIFICATION)

Does the requirement to provide the NAWA’s Director individual recognition statement on a foreign document or the administrative decision of the Education Superintendent (in the case of secondary school leaving certificates) apply to all candidates with foreign educational documents who wish to study at the University of Warsaw?

When applying for first-cycle or long-cycle studies, submitting the NAWA’s Director individual recognition statement on a foreign secondary education certificate or the administrative decision of the Education Superintendent (if the procedure was initiated before June 30th, 2025) is required only in certain cases. Candidates holding certificates issued in EU, EFTA, or OECD countries, as well as candidates whose certificates are recognised as equivalent on the basis of an international agreement, are exempt from this requirement. This obligation also does not apply to holders of IB or EB diplomas. When applying for second-cycle studies, obtaining the NAWA’s Director individual recognition statement on a foreign diploma is not required for candidates whose higher education diploma was issued in an EU, EFTA, or OECD country, or has been recognised as equivalent on the basis of an international agreement or through nostrification. Detailed information regarding the countries for which the NAWA’s Director individual recognition statement on a foreign document or the administrative decision of the Education Superintendent is required can be found on the website.🔗

Am I obliged to attach a scan of certificate of recognition of my high school diploma to my IRK account at the stage of registration for studies?

Those are two different documents. A certificate of recognition of high school diploma should be obtained at the Education Office appropriate for the place of candidate’s residence at the territory of Poland (or in case of nostrification of the higher education diploma – at appropriate higher education institution). The above-mentioned document does not need to be submitted at the stage of online registration or submission of documents at the faculty.
In order to obtain a certificate confirming that the diploma entitles to undertake or continue university-level studies candidates should contact the educational institution in their country, e.g. school/ university which issued a diploma.
The certificate confirming that the diploma entitles to undertake or continue university-level studies should be delivered by a candidate at a stage of submission of the required documents at the faculty. Failure to submit the above-mentioned certificate means that the decision on admission to studies can’t be issued. 🔗

How long will it take to obtain a certificate of recognition of high school diploma issued by the Education Superintendent?

The Education Superintendent is responsible for issuance of a certificate of recognition of high school diploma, therefore it is difficult to precise how long the process will take.
